I as a psychotherapeutic counsellor will commit to …
- Meeting with you each week for fifty minutes at a time and on a day previously agreed between you and me. I will give you as much notice as possible of any dates when I cannot meet with you.
- Abiding by the BACP Ethical Framework to ensure good practice.
- Keeping your sessions confidential. The only times this will not be possible is when I will take my caseload to my supervisor to help deepen my understanding of what you are presenting, and how best to work with you with the intention of helping to fulfil the outcomes we have agreed to work on. All cases presented will be on first-nam bases only. The other exception to the confidentiality rule is if it appears that you are at risk to yourself or to others. In such circumstances I will normally share my concerns with you before considering any further action.
- Working towards an MSc qualification in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy, I will need to share my work as part of my professional development, and with tutors. I might want to record sessions of our work together. Any such recordings will be treated with great respect and all identifying aspects will be omitted as much as possible to ensure that you can in no way be identified. I will discuss this with you and I will only record if you are comfortable. Your decision will not impact my decision to work with you.

The client commits to…
- Attending at the time and place as per the agreement.
- Giving as much notice as possible of any upcoming absences.
- I will have booked the time and room to see you. You are expected to pay the agreed amount each time for sessions attended and sessions missed, unless you give me at least one week’s notice for any upcoming absences.
- Telling me if you want to bring the sessions to an end, and agreeing an appropriate number of ‘winding up’ sessions.
- If willing, completing an anonymous evaluation form upon approaching the completion of therapy. This will allow us to revisit the areas of focus of the work, and find out together how it went. This often helps clients clarify what they want to do next. I encourage you to give honest feedback. I will take on board what you say, and endeavour to improve my work with subsequent clients.
